Wolseley Bridge to Tixall Wide

Posted on July 24, 2019October 16, 2019 by Steph

Sunday 21st July

Although our destination is the Caldon Canal, we wanted to visit Tixall Wide again as we love it so much.  Also the weather forecast is really hot for the next few days so it will be a lovely place to stay for a day or two.  So Wolseley Bridge to Tixall Wide is our journey for today.

We had a lovely mooring at Wolseley Bridge, it was quiet and we met a lovely couple who we stood and had a couple of glasses of wine with.  One of the great things about canal life is how many different characters you meet and get to chat to – it’s so interesting to hear different people’s stories.

We set off at about 11am and only had about 3 miles to cruise and 2 locks to do.  It was a beautiful sunny day and really not too busy.

Tixall Wide is so peaceful and beautiful.  I nipped to the farm shop at Great Haywood junction while Paul filled up with water.  I love the farm shop – it is a big expensive – but we decided to treat ourselves! The meat we bought from the butchers was so delicious – it was well worth it.

We had a day out at  Shugborough estate while we were here.  It’s a National Trust property and seeing as we are members, we really need to make the most of it. If you are not a member it’s £13.60 for adults and £6.80 for children.

It was a really good day out – we particularly loved Lord Lichfield’s apartments.  The gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed it all even though it was sweltering hot.

Tilly had to have a couple of dips in the river to cool off.

Our final day at Tixall Wide was our 14th wedding anniversary and we had an absolutely fabulous evening with a couple of celebrities who had moored up next to us ? @floatingourboat.  This is a great youtube vlog that you should go watch.

Also that night we had a beautiful sunset – before the storm began.

That sunset is stunning! I love when the sky looks that that right before a storm. It sounds like you had a great time. Tixall Wide looks like a great place to go and sit back and relax. Thanks for sharing.
