Still loving Venice – Day 3

Posted on August 22, 2018September 6, 2019 by Steph

10th July 2018

Visiting Burano and Murano today so hopped on the Vaporetto and went to Murano first.   Straight off the Vaporetto and visited a glass blowing factory – only a few euros – however we went into the shop afterwards and there was definitely nothing to buy for a few euros!!

Had a wander around and then jumped back on to Vaporetto to go to Burano.

Burano

This place is amazing and I’d definitely recommend that if you only have time to go to one island then make it this one.

Burano is famous for lace making and all the brightly coloured fishermen’s cottages are beautiful – I love it here – it’s so pretty.

Could wander round here all day long.

The plan was to go to a restaurant called Trattoria al Gatto Nero – as recommended by our daughter and also The Londoner.

Unfortunately no one was home – so disappointed as it is supposed to be amazing.  Oh well – we’ll just have to come back.  We carried on and found a lovely little place where we sat outside and had a couple of spritzes and pizza (can’t remember the name of the place – but there’s loads of places to choose from and they all looked good).

Burano was really worth the visit – we both loved it – I highly recommend you put it on your to do list if you visit Venice – I’ve never seen anywhere like it.

On arriving back in Venice we had a wander to the train station to get a ticket for Thursday when we travel to Naples – really annoyed at ourselves for not buying the ticket online before we came (no idea why we didn’t do this!!) and it cost us double what it would have done!

Campo del Ghetto

Had a stroll around Campo del Ghetto – the oldest Jewish ghetto in the world (or one of the oldest!) and then onto a cocktail bar I had found on Trip Advisor before coming here called Il Mercante.  This is a gorgeous little place with amazing cocktails – it’s not a restaurant although they did have some bruschetta so we sampled that – very yummy – well worth a visit.  We had a couple of drinks there and finished off at our favourite local bar again (where we went last night).  Sat chatting with the locals on the table next to us – luckily one of the lady’s spoke very good English – as our Italian is definitely not up to much – if – or hopefully when – we come back to Italy I am definitely going to try and learn the language!

Another amazing day in Venice!

PS – I would just like to say thank you to those of you who have liked my blogs – I have the grand total of 11 followers as well – haha – its very exciting!  Thanks guys xx

I love your pictures–that is exactly what I expect Burano and Murano to look like. We did not make it out to either place, sadly, but I did buy some beautiful Murano glass earrings in Venice.
