A Circular Walk in the Peak District
17th February 2018
This walk was featured in the Country Images magazine and it starts and ends at The Barrel Inn at Bretton. It is approximately 8km of moderate walking on footpaths and open moorland in the White Peak area.
Ordnance Survey Outdoor Leisure Sheet 24.
We arrived at the Barrel Inn on a cold, wintery but lovely and bright afternoon and watched the paragliders for a few minutes before setting off on our walk.
The walk goes past Bretton Youth Hostel, which is built on the footprint of a sixteenth century farm house, where two small gravestones in the far left corner of the hostel garden mark the mortal remains of the farmer and his wife, who lived here in the 1600s. This was probably as a result of the plague that ravaged nearby Eyam.
Continuing down into the valley of Bretton Clough, you eventually going on to Eyam Moor, which was beautiful. It was a fabulous walk with lots of snow still on the ground but we warmed up nicely once back in the pub.
Great post and absolutely gorgeous photos. When my son is bigger I think we may make a trip over to see the Peak District. So lovely. Thanks for sharing x
Thank you – yes you should definitely go it’s amazing – we saw a couple yesterday walking with their baby in a sling!
